Last evening a group of us MMC-ers took a bus into downtown to view the Christmas lights and, for those of us who are new, to see how the City responds to the Season. Though experiencing this for the first time in a light rain, we found that the warmth and glow of Christmas lighting remains the same. Some of the ’senior’ group exclaimed how that many of the decorations were new. Spain seems to go all-out to celebrate the Season.

A rather unusual ‘tradition’ for some has to do with their Creche displays. A daunting challenge is set each year for young and old alike – find the statuette of the person who is pooping. Yep, that’s what I said. So at the many booths set up for Creche sales (and there are many along the main street),

one can also find various figurines of people in a squatting position. I inquired as to this tradition but there was no really good answer forthcoming. Maybe I’ll discuss this with a Spaniard and get to the crux of the matter.

We are going to miss Christmas in Spain this year. But we will enjoy our time with family in the States.
