My world has certainly expanded in depth and scope. I talk with men and woman whose lives directly affect the evening news. I pray for people who may loose everything at best or their lives at worst for naming the name of Jesus. I help ministers of the gospel labor hard to win souls for the Kingdom of God and find great joy in the process. I am reminded that salvation is not cheap and the taking of the gospel to the lost is not without great cost. Everyday brings a fresh awareness that time is short and lifes greatest joy will soon appear.
C S Lewis is quoted …..It was when I was happiest that I longed the most. The sweetest thing in all my life has been the longing…to find the place where all beauty came from………….
I now long in a way that I never have before.
My life has changed in depth and scope. What a great mystery, that pain, tears, longing and struggle would be part of Gods plan for the greatest of joy here.
Lunch in Spainis around 2pm. I went home early to fix our ‘big’ meal for the day; (we have decided that eating ‘big’ around 10pm is way too late for our north american palates). I prepared pork chops in garlic, onion and mushrooms, mashed potatoes with butter and seasonings, mixed salad and flat green beans. In preparing the beans , simmering them in onion and garlic, I added salt and pepper. Now to my surprise the pepper lid was not secure and my lovely green beans now had at least a cup of black pepper on top of them. Now i was not about to throw out the beans. I mean, I am here to conquer a new country, a new language (plus the cost did not afford me that privilege). So too much pepper was not going to cause me problems. I proceeded to wash them under the faucet and tried again. They turned out just fine……………I was really surprised.I am learning to tell time in military fashion, cook in celcius, and wash clothes with a cranky European washing maching. I hang my clothes out on a drying rack all the while hoping they don’t blow over the balcony and onto the street nine floors below. I have shopped at grocery stores that I can’t understand the language and have gone to the pharmacy where you can get antibiotics over the counter…..so you see, a little pepper was no problem at all.I suppose even an old dog can learn new tricks!
